Go flagellate yourself if you must, Andrew, but leave America out of it.I haven't said anything about this because it seems so amazingly small to me (and because I've been very busy). Idiot frat-boy pranks and tendentious hyperbole--like any of this is new. It's interesting to me in one respect only: The inability of soldiers on the ground to identify Iraqis as being equally human--and this is seemingly ubiquitious--is a profound statement about the leverage of deWesternized, deLiberalized American education. In important respects, the War on Terror is actually East v. East, a quarrel among racist, irrational identity groups, with the West being more a cipher than a particpant. This is what has to change. |
